#hctweet

August 5, 2010

Yesterday was an awesome day at Hunterdon Central.  We are now about half way through the summer training of the next cohort of 1:1 pilot teachers, and it was our first chance as the instructors to hear from the cohort on their planned revisions to their curricula. They are all experimenting with at least one of the following:  inquiry based learning, project based learning, formative assessment and Web 2.o tools.  I’m really excited for THEIR students in September because I know that these cohort teachers’ classes are going to be awesome experiences.

While the teachers were sharing their unit/lesson plans we captured their ideas in a Google spreadsheet, and my friends Cathy (stutz01) and Heather (hhersey03) started Tweeting out what was being said.  Then they started Tweeting out the open-to-the-public Google Spreadsheet we were using to capture the cohort’s ideas.  We also had Will Richardson (willrich45), a former colleague, in to listen and offer suggestions and advice.

And through this all #hctweet was born, and then we had an audience that extended outside of HC!  Other people are looking at our spreadsheet!   This is awesome!  Hopefully #hctweet will become something we use at Hunterdon Central as well as a way for people to reach us and offer us advice as we continue on this project (as well as a way to get our attention!).

And as we talked more about what was going on with Twitter more of our cohort colleagues logged in, signed up and began to experiment.  It was pretty awesome.

Feel free to join our conversation and share your ideas with us.  We’re really a friendly group of people!

    Hi Keith
It looks like you’re teachers are doing some great work here. I have a group of pre-service teachers currently studying how to integrate ICT in the classroom. I am going to give them the link to your google doc (& your blog) so they can see how others are intending to implement ICT 🙂

Also I saw a note on your Google doc from someone asking about wiki skills – I just thought I’d mention that http://www.wikieducator.org (a free open educational resource) runs free online wiki workshops. And if anyone needs Moodle skills http://www.integrating-technology.org (IT4ALL) runs beginner, intermediate & advanced online workshops (US$39 registration).
    Good luck with your project!
    Cheers
    Jenni

Congratulations on your new blog! Great first post! It’s amazing the power of collaborative technology. We are piloting our county’s 1:1 netbook initiative at the 4th and 5th grade level, and loving it!! I look forward to reading about more of your adventures in education!

Hi, Kim (it is okay to call you by your first name?)!

Thank you so much for checking this out. I am really excited, and being part of the 1:1 for ’09-’10 @ HC was exhilarating as well. I am so psyched to be sharing to colleagues who now make up the second cohort. I am going to put stuff up here soon, a lesson I did using resources from the Southern Poverty Law Center and Diigo.

Please pass this around to your colleagues, we at HC want to have a great discussion and rapport with like minded educators. And if they want to get our attention they should use #hctweet in Twitter and try to get a hold of me (keithdennison), my friend Cathy Stutzman (stutz01) [English Dept.] and Heather Hersey (hhersey03) [Library/IMC].

Best of luck next year. BTW, where is your school district?

    Take care,
    Keith
